mentoplasty
After the operation.
Antibiotics will be given for one week.
Swelling will begin to subside one week after surgery but exercise should be avoided for two weeks.
Usually 4-6 weeks after the surgery any numbness will have subsided and residual swelling and bruising will have disappeared.
Complications.
Infection is uncommon and is treatable with antibiotics but if it does occur then it can lead to extrusion or removal of the implant. At Facial Aesthetics we routinely prescribe antibiotics to try and prevent this complication.
The implant can become displaced and may need replacing. This would require a second operation.
Numbness around the chin commonly occurs in the recovery period but only very occasionally is this permanent.
