digital imaging
What is digital imaging?
Prior to undertaking any facial plastic procedure, it is imperative that patients have clear and
realistic expectations. This necessitates appropriate, effective communication and planning between
the surgeon and the patient, as well as both having a mutual understanding of the desired result.
Digital Imaging is the latest technique that is designed to assist in the preoperative analysis and
planning of what the intended result may look like. Standard photographic images are not easily manipulated
and although the surgeon can draw on the intended adjustments, it can be difficult for patients to visualise
their post-operative appearance. Digital imaging uses computer manipulation on preoperative images taken from
frontal, basal, left and right oblique and profile views and allows the patient to see the modification of their
facial characteristics effortlessly. Computer imaging enables subtle variation of form to be carried out by the
patient and surgeon so that a suitable surgical goal can be agreed.
At Facial Aesthetics regular audit of our results show that there is close correlation between the agreed pre-operative
images and the final result. However, patients should be aware that the images generated are only simulations and not an
absolute guarantee of the surgical result.
